There is still benefit from a regular flourescent light. I use two regular shop lights suspended 1" above the plants. I just slowly raise the chains on the lights as the plants grow. Have them on a timer 16 hours on per day. I don't have the problems with plants getting leggy and falling over that I did when I tried to rely on natural sunlight through the window.

Obviously the grow light is *better* but they aren't cheap.
