Subject: How tall to let covercrop rye get?

South cental Ohio
I spread some rye last fall blended with my fertilizer and it didn't look like much until now. It's growing like crazy and since I've never planted rye for ONLY a cover crop, I'm wondering how tall do I let it get or when do I kill it??? Thanks. Oh, it was spread on cornstalks and then hit with a Sunflower vertical till. Going to plant beans in this field.
