| I have an older (month old) calf whose mother is full of mastitis and is going to be sold later this summer. The calf has been snacking off his mom, and obviously bonded with her as we've topped calf up with bottle feedings morning and night. Recently had a stillborn, so the opportunity has come up to graft this calf over. The grafting operation seems to be going well with putting stillborn's hide on the older calf, and the older calf sucked new mom dry with no problems in the headgate. What do i do about the strong bond between old calf and the old mom. Calf still wants old mom. Should i completely restrict access to old mom, or put all three (new mom, old mom and graft calf) together for awhile? | |
