Subject: RE: IH 1566 rear wheel hubs

Southeastern Tipton County, Indiana

ollieolliver - 4/8/2014 21:44 Thank you for the advice! I do not feel comfortable doing them side for side, so I am just taking the wheel off, then hub and flipping it, and putting it back on. My question is, how loose do I have to have the hub wedges? And I notice you said you can flip the locks around too? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but this is my first attempt at this style hub. Thanks again.

Back the wedges off as far as possible against the outer stop, then tighten the screws just enough that the wedges have no tension on them. This is as loose as they'll get. Clean the axle and oil it to help the wheel while sliding it off of the axle.

Very important that the axle is cleaned of any paint or rust where the wheel and wedges will contact in the new position. Clean the wedges and ramps and lubricate everything well. When you tighten the wedges pay attention that you get them relatively even so the ramps are square to the flats on the axle. Final torque is 400 foot pounds.

Be careful, those wheels are heavy and awkward.

The dual hub nuts depends on how hot you had to get them for removal.
