Subject: RE: Lester vs Cleary buildings

E.Central MN
We started with a quote from Cleary. But by the time we looked thru the rest of the quotes (Ram/Lesters/Wick/local lumberyard)we didn't think the Cleary bldg design was strong enough to meet the local snow/wind loads. If they don't know how to design for something as critical as snow/wind load then what else don't they know. That eliminated them from consideration. A few weeks ago I drove thru Benson MN and saw a new building was being built, the sidewalls were up and rafters had been put in place, and the whole thing had collapsed. I don't know who the builder was. But it just goes to show there are lots of issues to consider when putting up a building, one of them is the builder financially strong enough to complete the job. Who takes the blame when things go wrong, etc. That was one reason we shied away from the two party lumber yard supplying material and an independent builder putting it up. Saving a few thousand might not be enough to put up with the hassle if something goes wrong. Most of the bids weren't that far apart in price when you compared apples to apples. It can take some doing to get them to quote the same exact building though.
