Subject: Desalination

One other thing to consider about the cost of desalination. That $1000/acre foot cost is usually figured at the most optimistic, wholesale energy prices found. Prices that aren't usually realistic in SoCal. Prices that are guaranteed to go up, up, up. Esp. in SoCal.

But regardless of how you price it, desalination has HUGE appetite for energy. A large portion of that $1,000 price is electricity. Electricity that right now, if you want it affordable, is coming from some big ass coal fired powerplant. Something else Southern Californian's just love...

If you have to start trying to power a desalination plant with solar, wind, pixie dust and other such unrealistic energy sources.... the price just soars past even that stout $1000.
