Heater manufactures will recommend to unplug the heater BEFORE starting engine. Kinda like letting the pressure out of your gauges on your torch set, technically supposed to do it after using them but do you? I almost always unplug before starting but never leave it plugged in while using the engine. Technically at a certain temp the heater should shut off.
