The thermal efficiency of turning fuel into electricity is not all that great. Probably looking at less than 40% of the energy in every pound of diesel burned makes electricity. So if you can use the other 60% that normally goes out in the radiator heat, exhaust heat and radiant heat off the engine for something useful, then it's bound to help.

Not too sure about diesel exhaust into the dryer, but the radiator would be a big part of it. If he could get water cooled exhaust manifolds (used on generators and marine engines to keep the surroundings cooler), he could pick up an additonal fraction of the heat from the fuel and put that through the radiator as well Then if the whole generator was in a room where the dryer drew it's intake air from, you probably could get a lot of the heat from the generator end and surfaces of the engine to add to it.

Really need to be natural gas powered and then should be able to just route the exhaust into the dryer too.
