unless you will rely on the child to produce income you need, forget life insurance on a child. insurance salesman capitalize on a new parents' desire to do the right thing. they make a ton on money on commissions at a time when the parents most need that money for a business or living expense. if you lost a child, all the insurance in the world wouldn't make you feel any better.

they tell you the insurance is for a college fund, but don't tell you the fund is for their kids, not yours. that is because they will get a lot of what you pay in commissions every year.
