I am looking at putting an 800HD in my G1000 any tips? How hard would it be to convert a NG motor to diesel?

Dearfield Co.
Why not just find a 585 and turbo it??I think that would be far easier and not have to do the ng to diesel deal.

Did the 800 engine have a different flywheel bell housing size than the 504 motor . I can not imagine the rear end would take it either. My dad tore his up twice in 4 years. Keep us informed how it turns out spent many a hour on G-1000.

Harriott and Perry ran one in Stangles pulling tractor before they made them take it out. That is when the whooped everyone if it didn't pop at the wrong time.

Steve Holmes at Martinsville, Ohio could tell you, don't have his number handy.

If this is for field use a transplanted 585 with a little turbo will eat the rear end-----------if you are planning on just using it to pull with I would run it on alky using a couple of big holleys or a predator setup

If it's POWER you're after, just find yourself an Allison, and stuff it in there!!!!!!

I figured he was after stock appearing lol-------seems to be a fairly old picture with the allison.I tried digging thru my pics for Leon Adkins g1000 that he ran as a super stock in the 80s but couldnt find one.He found the weak point of the 585s with 2 chargers and about 5000 rpm.4 main bearings weren't enough

That was taken on July 13th, 2013, after a 7 month restoration. That's Bill Newlon's tractor, that he built in the early 70's.
We just put it back together, in memory of Bill.

This is what it looked like on Dec. 8th, 2012........

Sorry for hijacking. I just had to throw this on here.

Just put it on propane. Should be able to find factory propane tank for g1000 in a bone yard somewhere.

I don't thing an 800hd would give you much more power than a stock engine. 111hp vs about 125 for the HD. I've run lots of HD's through the years and they are designed to run at a constant rpm. Low hp for the size and weight. They are designed for endurance, not power.

Rightfully so------------the picture looks retro lol.I didnt know pullers out of this area so I was at a loss on the dates as well.We only had one puller with a minnie around here was Leon Adkins I referenced in the other post,he was a IHC dealer that took the tractor in on trade and was allways fun to watch at the state association pulls

...I don't know how they fared pulling with those big motors...but I know the local pulling tractor machine shop built at least one of those diesels. They had that damn thing hittin' so hard they would break the wrist pins in it. Then they decided to make their own wrist pins out of solid round stock. They bent those. So then they bored a hole through their solid pins...and double heat treated them, and they finally got enough flex in the wrist pin that it wouldn't break...and would live for a while. Can't remember for sure how many cubic inches they had in that engine...but it would boggle your mind.

Here is a picture of my G1000 Vista with a 800 LP. I purchased the tractor about six years ago, did some restoration work on it,
take it to a few shows and tractor drives. The engine seems like a big time lugger. The rumor was, this tractor had a turbo on it at one
time, but I'm not sure about that. It started out as a diesel by serial #, then converted to LP with the addition of the 800. I'm the third owner.
I have been offered in the mid 20K for it, by a collector.

I would suggest to NOT convert that motor to diesel, gas makes more power than diesel any day of the year.
