Subject: RE: Resister ahead of coil??

Bourbon,Indiana

My understanding is.....the resisitor is to keep from burning up the points if the key switch is left on . It does nothing to affect or effect the coil operation/ life.

You will find many arguments on placement before, or after , or even inside the coil. But essentially the point is made......if the resistor is before the coil it could be bypassed to provide a "hotter" spark in hard starting conditions.

I myself have never found proof of this.

...........My take

If you want to delve deeper into this.....look on some of the older tractor websites, like ytmag, or yesterdays tractor forums. You will find plenty of reading material there.
