Martinsville, Ohio | That's my point right there. Anyone with good germplasm sells it to others because they can't sell enough of it themselves. Proprietary hybrids aren't that proprietary and if they are, they are often beat by a competitor with the same male or female.
There are only like five major pedigree lines being used, we are planting something more similar than we think. Yes there are hundreds of crosses but they all come from the same sets of parents pretty much.
Seed quality alone varies 30 bu on the same pedigrees over the years I have studied them, usually within 10 bushels.
All the majors have been on this farm and I quit testing when I narrowed it down to a few regional companies with better seed quality. I got tired of $100 corn outperforming $200 $300 corn. Putting out good plots is hard work, the last one here was 09 when the pink leaves showed up in the GMO corn. Now I pick five good hybrids and work to maximize each one.
