ecmn | my opinion is that newer heads have made changes to make them easier to tune for less header loss and less trash intake. there is also plenty of aftermarket to make an old head work like a new head. you know your budget and needs. If loss out the back is your big concern a pile of money on a new head isn't going to fix it.
how are your bars on wear? how is the concave on wear and squareness? can you speed up cylinder speed some without damaging grain?
is there a reason that you need to meet a level of harvesting speed... corn snapping off, ears dropping, storms coming....?
