It is not hard, just time consuming.

We use 4 x 6 oak timbers 8 feet long. It takes more of them than railroad ties, but they are a lot easier for me to carry and move around.

Take a chainsaw with you - you may need to cut them shorter or cut a notch in one for a chain or something.

I also take a screw gun, screws, and some strips of 3/4 plywood. It sometimes helps to screw the cribbing together so it doesn't move as you are putting weight on it, especially when you are by yourself.
