Oxford County, ON | Not trying to imply anything, just going on the basic stuff I usually find to be wrong when our AHHC acts up.
You've cleaned out underneath the plates? Dirt build-up can prevent the system from sensing its unlocked and ok to work. If you've done this, and it wouldn't work on either combine, I would start with the little box on the right-hand side of the header that holds the circuit board. The contactors and/or circuit board itself may be worn out. If the circuit board appears 'scratched' by the contactors to the point wear the 'pads' on the board are coming off you will likely need to replace the board.
Or, it could be just too far out of adjustment; adjusting requires loosening the several bolts that hold the box on and giving it a twist. This can require multiple tries to fine-tune the header, but I have a feeling your problem is more than this.
You don't need to be moving but need to have at least the electric clutch engaged for AHHC to work (on our 9610 anyway).
