Subject: RE: air flowing alfalfa

Lacombe, Alberta
We use a Valmar PT245 and seed grass with it. No alfalfa is grown here so I don't know how well it works. We have bigger rollers on it and go over the field twice to put enough on and to have even coverage about 50 lbs/acre. We can calibrate it so its very accurate with 60 speeds. You do have to watch for plugged hoses but we are putting as much grass seed through as we can. We cultipack with just the rollers afterwards. Ours has left and right clutches so we can reduce overlap.

Here's a picture from this morning of grass seeding. Tractor has lightbar and we do 50ft @ 7 mph. It is ground driven so it doesn't matter how fast you go. One thing to think about is that the air might make the alfalfa seed bounce somewhere you don't want.
