| I have had luck with "making" a magnet. Get some baling wire, the rod you want to magnetize and a decent battery. Then the old elementary school magnetic making effort. One time I used a piece of act/oxy welding wire and a small rubber tube for a handle. slid the end of the wire in, had the wrapped wire outside, held onto the rubber tube handle and then hooked the battery up. It does not make a strong magnetic but usually enough to grab the loose item and drag it to the hole it needs to come out.
Best of luck. Don't forget gravity is your friend here as well. Have the hole facing down hill as much as reasonably possible. Sometimes you get lucky.
