If you have a strong magnet, hold it against a piece of baling wire and the magnetism will "travel" down to the end of the wire. Test it on a keeper on the workbench to see if it's strong enough to lift it. Then try using that concoction to fish the keeper out through the hold it fell into. You can also magnetize a wire by stroking it in one direction with a good magnet.
