Subject: Belt meter improve metering and you get more capacity with the 5500

I can't speak for the weight of the 5500 or what it takes to pull it - I basically built the same thing using a 24' GP folding drill with IH 800 units and it's ok behind a 7110. However, many of the 5500's I've seen already have the SI belt meters installed and these do a good job of planting population. Also, having just 2 big boxes to fill is nice. I really like filling up with 50 bushels and planting for a long time (especially at lower populations) rather than filling a bunch of boxes that tend to hold less.

Like Jim said it might just as well for us all to go back to 30" rows, but I still have significant weed pressure and the faster canopy of 15" rows is still an important weed control considerations for me. The other issue is that with a kinze or other interplant planter you have just one machine to plant both crops. It's still takes time to change it over from corn to beans, but it's one less thing to maintain and store.

Hope this helps,

Pat
