Subject: Briggs Valve Spring Retainer

St Peter MN
Had the clip/retainer that holds the intake valve spring onto the valve slide over and release the spring tension. The hole looks like a #8 in the clip. Larger hole on one side to slide over valve, then you push the smaller side of the hole onto the tapered part of the valve when in the proper position. (hope that makes sense) My question is, how hard should it be to slip that clip onto the valve when in the proper position. It slipped on quite easy and seems like it could pop off again. I don't want to get it all back together and have it happen right away. Should that retainer be replaced or is this how they should be? Thanks for any input.
