Your friend is correct to be concerned. They are one heck of a good dozer when running, though. Talking with a local parts house that used to be one of the largest Allis Chalmers and then Fiat Allis construction dealers in the U.S., there is no ready made chain for those tractors. They can, however, be converted over to some CAT D5 or D6 chain, but you will have to change pads too, and possibly rollers, and have to do some welding on the segments to make it work. Some of the final drive parts are getting hard to get, at least on the larger ones. The steering pumps are NLA and have to be manufactured. Am thinking engine parts can be hard to come by, as well. I would research the track chain situation thoroughly before putting money down.
