Dealer is pulling your leg. 'Pump rub' is a known common issue on that vintage 4wd gms. Internal part fails permitting pump to rub on housing, leading to hole in housing and failure of transfer case. This issue was corrected with changes to the transfer case when the new style trucks were introduced.
