NE LA. across from the fiberglass Charolais bull | Two Union soldiers died from malnutrition/pneumonia while camped on a ridge SW of my house. They were based out of Hamburg, Arkansas and were combing the countryside for livestock and foodstuffs. They were burning everything they couldn't carry off. The lady of the house pleaded and they spared the house but burned all the outbuildings. This is in the Union Army records.
I was told by an old farm hand that the soldier's bones were dug up while digging a pit for a livestock platform scale after WW2. He said they quickly back-filled the hole and moved the scale pit 20 feet away. |
