it doesn't matter the amounts imo. It comes down to does the government derseve to benefit from the death from someone who worked and saved all their life? That same farmer could have bought no land and just cash rented ground from others and upon his death the government would have received no estate tax. I know people will say that the government needs money to function. I agree with that. But wealth by itself is not an indicator of a persons resources. For example I can have an investment of $10,000,000 that pays a 1% return and you can have a $10,000,000 investment that pays 20% return and upon death they would both be taxed the same. imo It is much better tax the return rather then worth of an investment.
