Subject: 74 jd 7520 transmission

I am going to be getting around to putting the tranny back together after the rear pinion bearing failed. The manual instructs to leave something like 0.001 to 0.003 of play. The manual for our 8430 calls for measuring rolling drag. Would I be correct in assuming the rolling drag method is mor logical for this shaft? I don't imagine it heats up near the sAme as the top ones since it is submerged on oil and on average turns slower?
