Central Neb. | It kills me every time I hear that feeders are the only guys that work hard. We run only row crop and I will put our hours up against anyone's. My wife will vouch for me on that as well. From March 1 until the ground freezes we work from 730 till 10ish almost everyday. We are constantly busy and rushing to get something done. Winter is not much of a down time but the hours are more 8-5ish then. Most of my friends are feeders and I know for a fact they quit by 7 most days except during harvest. If you think grain farmers work only 6 months a year get frickin real. Come follow me around on a July day fixing pivots. 27 pivots just don't run themselves especially with control days. Whats the big deal that grain farmers are making money once? I remember in the late 90's dad couldn't buy a piece of ground to save his life because the cattle guys were the only ones making money. In all honestly I wish we had a small feedlot to diversify but there are some times I am glad we don't. | |
