Take your mouse cursor up to the bar where the file, edit, view, tools ,message help words are. Right click on the bar and see if "toolbar" is checked in the drop down menu. If it is unchecked that is probably why you don't see your icon buttons.
Toolbar is checked.
This is on a netbook I just use for surfing the net, I may just have to restore it to an earlier date.
