Subject: Farming in Africa

I was just flipping through the weekly news update from these folks...

...and thought this was interesting:

North Dakota Farmer Expands Operation to Africa — Like a lot of farmers, Wallie Hardie has expanded his farming operation. The difference is his new land is more than 9,000 miles from his Fairmount, North Dakota home. "When we visited there five years ago we saw beautiful people and beautiful climate, but no economy. About a year ago a company contacted me that received a concession from the government of Mozambique," Hardie said. "We will clear the land, clear the trees and plant soybeans and corn and crops that we know." The Hardie’s now have about 5,000 acres cleared in Mozambique. Son, Josh, will travel there this week to plant 2,000 acres of soybeans before the four-month rainy season drops 40 inches of rain. Hardie thinks Africa could be the next Brazil.

I know the Summit Group's plans for farming in Africa have drawn quite a bit of attention. http://www.summitag.com/ Any NAT'ers involved in an African operation?
