ECIL | We are seriously thinking of going the opposite direction. Ours was originally for wood but the previous owner put a gas insert in it. We get very little heat from it, most goes up the chimney. It does have a fan but it is noisy and doesn't put out much heat. Ours is hard to light, it almost backflashed on me the last couple times I used it. We will be soon pricing removing the gas insert and going with a cast iron wood setup for the existing fireplace. The ones I am interested in put out real decent heat. What works for some doesn't with others I guess.
