That's an interesting job. The RB57 (Canabera, right?) somehow started it's engines with an explosive charge, or shotgun shell...is that correct? Or, do I have the wrong plane in mind?
Yes, you are right Ron..............They came in a 1 gallon can, sealed of course and you opened it with a "key" like old time cans that coffee came in. You'd place it in it's cavity, install the cap, turn it to "lock" (I think) and she was ready to BLOW smoke,.............if it was a dud and some were, you were suppose to wait 15 minutes before replacing it and this would really irritate the pilot (having to wait), especially on a hot sunny day. I recall just a handful in my career that didn't blow. In the bomb bay area was room for 6 cans in case they had to go to another base that didn't use these,.........just like have a spare set of keys.....d:>) | |
