That way, you can help your wife prepare dinner, not be distracted by the evening news, and be able to listen and communicate with her.  Later in the evening, you can retire to watch the news, and she can join you, or do something else as she prefers.

I have gone to using satellite TV (specifically, DISH).  That is one of the advantages I have found - I can record a show and watch it at a different time.  Not saying you need to go to satellite TV either.  Go to an electronics store - that sells TV's - and see what is available to record with.  (Personally, I don't know.)
