| Planting period is really late for wheat planting season in central Alabama. However weather is unusually warm for this time of year here. just got killing frost Nov 24 and Rain Nov 27 have good soil moisture.
Next 5 day forecast
Sunny and partly couldy.
Temperatures Days 70-72 degrees. Nights 46-52 degrees
Had thoughts of planting wheat although have to consider crop yield will likely ( all depending on weather as usual ) be significantly reduced planting this late.
Whats the opinions / thoughts/ advice of farmers with years of wisdom / experience growing wheat for grain market??
Would you consider planting this late or forgo and not plant??
Have these two wheat varieties to choose from.
Coker 9553 early maturity
AGS 2026 medium maturity
Anybody know the pros and cons of these varieties?
Which variety would be the best to plant this late considering maturity dates?
Land has laid out/ not been in production for couple of years
Soil is mostly sandy loam, some clay and rocky in some areas
Group #1. Sandy soil
Group #2. Loams and Light clays
