I should have put a note on there - I loosened the bale with the loader spear by lifting and dropping it. Calves are not as good at tearing apart a very tight 1600 lb bale as the cows and I want to make sure they get plenty to eat, especially the younger ones. When I do that loosening, the fresh hay you see on the ground is mostly dropped by me, not the calves. They will clean it up before I put out another bale - which is what you see in the calf kneeling under the cradle. ;) Jim
