Subject: Re: My Corn situation

Eastern, IN
The corn will dry from the bottom of the bin upward. So the corn on top will not make any progress for a long time, then overnight it will start dropping. Personally year in and year out it takes about 45 days to air-dry corn. Turn the fan on, walk away but check regularly. Never....NEVER shut the fan off unless you are done drying the corn. Sometimes that action will cause a crust within the bin (shutting the fan off for any reason other then the corns dry). Electric has alway cost between 3 and 4 cents per bu to air dry. We normally air dry about 75k bushel per year and have never sold moldy corn or had any dock issues from storage.

I have no proof of this but I feel I can air dry corn quicker when the weather is cold then when it is warm. As for your question, I would leave the corn like it is and take alittle dock rather then start the fans again. If you want to hold it into warm weather, you will need to cool the corn down when outside temps are very cold.
Good luck,
