Eastern Nebraska
I make a rye bread that looks like wheat bread.... I use dark brown sugar in it... is sweeter... sorghum and I make a burnt sugar syrup and add to it... about 2 tablespoons of each.... To make burnt sugar syrup you use equal parts sugar and water.... Put the sugar in a skillet and over medium heat cook the sugar until it turns brown... with the skillet on the burner add the water to it... stir quickly... It will kind of foam up and you will get s lump of hard sugar syrup on your spoon... Keep stirring and it will melt back into the syrup... You can store it in the fridge for up to three weeks... There are recipes on the internet for burnt sugar cake also.. it is pretty good.... well the love in my life says it is just like grandma's and she made the best bread... just the right amount of sweetness...
