Monsanto is not going to enforce the RR patents they have. The other companies are enforcing the other patents they have,not the RR1's. Most soybean varieties are protected from farmers saving their seed but up until now, they have let Monsanto police it since the RR gene was in all of them. Now that Monsanto doesn't care, the others are trying to protect what they have invested so they can capture the royalties due to them from sales of their seeds. IE, when you buy a bag of RR seed some (most) of the royalty goes to Monsanto, but a smaller portion goes to whoever developed the seed. Monsanto doesn't care anymore but those people still want their money so they're going to enforce it.
