NW Central Ohio | I guess I suffer from "backyarditis" on the notion one should "shorten" their soybean plant. We have some soils in my area that will produce soybean stems in drilled beans that are over 5' tall. I remember walking out into an early planted field of my neighbors...and pulling a leaning plant upright some time after wheat harvest...and the plant came to my nose! Those soybeans hadn't had anything special applied to them...maybe some potash, but no chicken litter or phosphorous. The neighbor said they had all the growth you could have wanted, but the yield didn't match the heighth. I believe the next year he threw a little Cobra in with his post glyphosate application, to at least "slow" the growth down a little and perhaps retain more flowers. | |
