I don't know when we all decided every last weed and clump of fescue needed to be whacked off every fall. When I was younger most every farm had a few weedy fence rows or an unmowed creek and most every farm had a covey or two of quail. Now every thing is slicked back and there are no birds to be found. I'm as guilty as the next guy, went and mowed the edges of all my rented farms after harvest. Do they look better? Yeah, I suppose they do, but it depends what you are looking for. I don't have an answer for this and I don't see it changing any time soon. Its just too bad that our definition of what looks good has cost the habitat of so much wildlife that also is good to look at.
