Are you sure 'christmas parties began 2000 years ago?

If you check back in history you will find that christmas was no big deal even 100 years ago.

My grand parents were married on christmas day at 'the parsonage', marriage was no big deal then either as only a couple of family members went with them.

I know you want to tie it to the birth of the god Jesus but of course the actual date of his birth is lost in history but many scholars will claim different dates than December 25th as well as different years than 1AD.

Things change just as the custom of 'christmas trees' began about 100 years ago when they hung them upside down from the ceiling. And trees were part of the pagan celebration around the shortest daylight of the year before the church adopted them.

What you were raised with as 'traditional' holiday fare was different from 'traditional' holidays of a hundred years before.

If you are going to a party at your company is it religious? or is it a celebration of good times with fellow workers paid for by your employer to reward the workforce or another way to look at it is a benefit of working there.

Would it not be better to call it a christmas party if it was at your church and a holiday party when it is work related?
