Pro tip: read the manual that comes with your camera. Blurry pics are easily corrected. Slow shutter speed? Taking pics in low light conditions? Tripods help with that.

Is the auto-focus enabled or are you using the manual focus? Are you focusing on near objects but trying to capture far objects and vice versa? Stuff like that can make a big difference.

However, if you're set on a different camera, look at the Nikon CoolPix cameras. They are fairly small, you can snap pics with one hand and hold an errant kid in the other, but take real nice pics. Plus, they fit in your shirt pocket, rather than dragging you down with that stupid neck strap. (You still need to read the manual)
