Subject: Re: DP Contract

In Illinois if you put your grain on DP, you're required to sign the Dept of Ag issued DP contract within 30 days of the final delivery date. The grain code states that if the producer does not sign within that time frame, they are required to sell that grain for the producers account on the close of the 30th day.

Most elevators will not spot out your corn, in protection of the producer. However, they have every legal right to. It makes the process much simpler to do it in person, however contracts sent via email, scan, or mail are acceptable. Some elvators also offer ways to sign electronically. When Dept of Ag auditors come through every year to audit each elevator, they go through the majority of the DP contracts to ensure everything is being handled properly.
