I don't think you'd call it a clay, but we have some 'gumbo' type soils that will clod and stay wet, and gypsum is like magic on it. I was digging in some today that was like concrete when I got the place, could dig with my hands now and it will easily crumble apart. Seems to not feel as 'wet' even though the soil is saturated. Pretty amazing actually.

Had 1.1 tons/acre last fall is probably the only gyp the place has ever seen.
