Near-north Ontario, French River
Redoak, most years in our area ( you aren't far from me) we could probably get by just fine growing conventional Non-GMO corn , as as you know we are in a low Corn Borer pressure area, and other insect pressure is generally low as well. Having said that I firmly believe that in our area we are still getting our yield from GENETICS and not the GMO traits. In higher insect pressure areas the traited hybrids will shine, as under those conditions traits are preserving the genetic yield potential, vs non traited varieties. If you can find a non-gmo that consistently yields up there with traited varieties under local conditions ( check out LOCAL test plot results) I wouldn't be afraid to go 100% conventional. Sadly any varieties with naturally high genetic yield potential are also the varieties that are being traited so in the long term we are all being pushed into the gmo camp whether we like it or not.
