Sac & Story county IA
"drug through plenty of snow and salt "

"plug the lights in and they are dim what does that mean"

The copper wire gets corroded about as fast from salt, snow and ice as anything. After the trailer has been used on salty roads, sitting still not using them still keeps corroding.
If the copper wire inside of the insulation isn't bright color, just as well replace it. It will bother again next week or next month.
Plan on new wire and trailer plug and new lights. Then, you will be good for a few years.

Lights on a trailer are the most often repair item on any trailer.
