South Central Kansas, Harper County | Bought a load of 600# heifers 10 days ago, used cattlemaster 4, vision 7, and poured. Some of these were weaned calves, some were not, came from a calf auction at salebarn. Pulled two yesterday, and used Excede. So far, so good. I agree with footballjdtractor, as I don't like to mass treat on arrival with an antibiotic, if I did, it would be something along the line of noramycin or something like that. I can remember years ago, local vet always mixed up what he called "bloody mary". Which I think was spectomycin or neomycin, plus some assorted vitamins, B1, B12, whatever. It was definitely red, and we gave that to each calf when we run it through the chute. Just common practice back then, and relatively effective. We also use a lick tub and a salt block in pen on new arrivals. |
