Subject: Re: Cotton Varieties are Regional performers

Tenn Valley
Cotton varieties are certainly regionals & performance changes even with the change in soil types. For growers that I work with, PHY 499 was the top performing variety followed by DPL 1133 & 912. In grower tests, there were some good Fibermax - Bayer varieties. Fibermax leads in the Southwest but hasn't had a breakthru variety in the MidSouth. STV 5445 and Americot 1511 were suprising good.

In U-Tenn prelim OVT test, PHY 499 won the test, the next company is Fibermax at number 7 - 1944, Stoneville's 4145 is no 11 in the test, Americot 1550 is number 16, DPL 912 is number 18 - out of 33 varieties tested across 6 locations in Tenn in '12. DPL 1219 which performed well in NPE trials in '11, ranked 29th out of 33 varieties in Tenn's variety. The test ave was 1209lbs. A grower I work with said he would never plant 1219 again.

In our "neck of the woods", this has been an amazing year which turned around & cotton really exceeds our hopes - especially what it looked like at the end of June. The markets are going to have to make a statement that they want US cotton production!
