Subject: RE: Variable rate corn planting ???

Geuda Springs, Kansas
The GIS guys and I have been debating this for about 2 years. I am not a fan of precision plantings way of making prescriptions off of soil types. Without Yield and soil data to build the equations like an expensive software such as SMS or SST summit will do, I don't believe it is a great ideal. The biggest reason is that I do not trust the accuracy of the USDA soil data, and also I ask the same questions, What should my population be for soil type. Precision planting is just wanting you to take a wild guess. My question is, what if you are wrong? Will it cost you enough in yield that maybe you should have just stuck to putting on a single rate? I apologize for being negative on this, however I am not a believer. Good luck.
