frederick, MD | I had a knight, had 3 of them over the years. They are great mixers. They run for years. Put a liner in them and a few auger flights and runem for several more years. They dont break down, mix well and mix fast. The only thing is, they can only handle about 2 lbs of hay. I decided I wanted to put the hay in the ration for my drys and heifers so I had to get a differant mixer. Have a keenan now, but not real happy with it. Tried the verticals. Some dont mix well, some do. They all take a lot of power and are difficult to start when loaded.
The helix reel does look like it would handle more hay. I always thought the biggest problem with the knight reels and hay was the hay gets stuck in the middle of the reel, and does not make it too the auger.
With that said, if you dont put hay in your mixer, I would stick with the knight | |
