Hello,

just did get a really good book from your side of the sea, its from V.A.Tiedjens, Founder of Grower Minerals. He had a good look into what is hurting yields.
There`s one graphic in his book showing a really strong correlation between reading of hand-penetrometer and earlength. He just did collect datas for a view years,
pushing penetrometer into the soil rigth beside the plant and measuring earlength! He would get 9-10inch ears with 10pounds pressure on the probe, 7inch with 50 pounds
and 4 inch with 100pounds. He did all this on well fertilized trialfields to find out about yieldsfluctuation.
