SW MINNESOTA | I seen a post a few weeks ago of pics of a 9r John deere with four tracks. I tried a search but couldn't find anything.

Is that custom or are they gonna make that style?

Athens, Ga | think that one was custom, but i have heard they are looking to make one.

Northwestern Minnesota | Why is JD so slow at adapting? Rotery took them a while to adapt and now Quad trac
T800 |
| ||
Lee Co | give 'em another 4 -5 years and they will INVENT the quad track just like they invented a rotary combine! Oh yea a rotary separator, they still just have a concave to strip the grain in a micro second. Edited by T800 11/23/2012 08:33

SE SD | That one is a custom job done by james river out of huron sd. Its going to some guy by wolsey sd. They moved the steps and battery box to i believe.

Anyone remember The Farm Quarterly magazine? Back in the 60's, there was an editorial about machinery innovation. I don't remember the exact words, but it went something like, 'When we want to know what's the latest thing, we pick up an Oliver catalog (or maybe it was AC). When we want to know what will be a lasting trend, then we get a John Deere book.' Oliver isn't doing much 'innovating' these days...

Athens, Ga | well patents last 20 yrs. so that explains why deere had to wait.. depends on who got patent first and how they described it.. http://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=208224&Display... maybe you will see JD was not BEHIND IH in the rotary department. but maybe just lost the patent battle

Michigan | That thing probly isn't the fastest, unless they put new gears in it. Ill take a machine with a drive train meant for tracks in the first place.

Columbia Basin, Ephrata, WA | If JD hadn't been slow in the first place they could have bought the original patents from Omnitrac and had green quads long ago.

Columbia Basin, Ephrata, WA | It was probably Allis-Chalmers. They had all kinds of new (dumb) ideas that never caught on. To this day there just are not many rear engine tractors, side discharge SP combines, or front unloading manure spreaders.
Red Whiskers |
| ||
Cleburne TX | Well yes and no. I think there are a lot of round balers today, most slinger spreaders are front discharge.

Idaho | "They had all kinds of new (dumb) ideas that never caught on." Or engine beside the cab combines.
